Biography
Youzimin is a PGR student in Digital Humanities, specializing in the intersection of media archaeology, philosophy of technology, and platform studies. He has a strong interest in video games, especially early games produced before the 1980s. He holds a Master of Arts from Peking University and is currently pursuing a PhD at the School of Arts, Peking University.
His doctoral research focuses on systematically examining the multiple structures of video game images: historical, technical, ludic, aesthetic, and visual-cultural—with the aim of exploring the episteme emerging from them and rethinking the human-technology relationship in the digital age. He is also interested in the physical and digital preservation of video game heritage and contributes to the online retro game museum project: https://rgm.games/. He has presented at academic conferences including the 36th Congress of the Comité International d’Histoire de l’Art, where he discussed the relations between digital and non-digital images from a phenomenological perspective.
He enjoys playing JRPGs, Indie games, and early arcades, and he has played on more handheld consoles than anything else.
