
Zenab Barry
Senior Patient and Public Involvement Officer
Biography
Zenab Barry is a political scientist and international development specialist with a strong passion for maternal health equity. She has collaborated with institutions such as the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust, and NHS England. From 2020 to 2022, she served as Chair of the National Maternity Voices Council, later continuing as a Director until February 2024. Zenab is committed to improving maternal and infant health outcomes through research and meaningful community involvement, with a focus on Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE).
A strong advocate of co-production and the ethical use of technology in healthcare, Zenab is excited to be part of The FRAIYA Study, which aims to improve fetal scans through artificial intelligence. Zenab is also an active member of the Maternal and Perinatal Systems and Policy (MAPS) group at the School of Life Course & Population Sciences, within the Department of Women & Children’s Health. There, she leads the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) component of the No Recourse to Public Funds Programme, mentoring a diverse range of stakeholders and championing maternal health equity and fairer migration policies.
Zenab is the founder of Zenab Barry Consulting, a platform that provides coaching, mentoring, leadership development, as well as cultural competency and PPIE services to individuals and organisations. Through her varied work, she continues to drive meaningful change at the intersection of health, policy, and community engagement.
