ACCESSCare-P: Perspectives
We will build upon the ACCESSCare projects with two work packages.
Work package 1.
Patient experience is crucial for quality healthcare. The NHS focuses on measuring patient experience as part of improving quality. However, there aren't many tools available to measure LGBT+ inclusive care. We will create a patient reported experience measure (PREM) to measure LGBT+ inclusive care experiences, called ACCESSCare-PREM. First, we will review existing tools to see if any might be appropriate or could be modified for use in UK healthcare. Then we will analyse interviews with LGBT+ people from the ACCESSCare studies, to identify key items for inclusion in the PREM. Finally, we will meet with LGBT+ community members to review our findings, and develop the pilot version of ACCESSCare-PREM for further testing.
Work package 2.
NHS England’s Integrated Care Systems are responsible for funding and planning health services in their regions. They aim to improve health and wellbeing and reduce health disparities. LGBT+ individuals face discrimination, have less access to services, and suffer more from certain serious illnesses. Each of the 42 ICSs across England has a strategy to address these issues. We will critically analyse these strategies to see if and how they describe and prioritise the needs of LGBT+ communities.
Aims
- To develop a PREM (patient reported experience measure) of LGBT+ inclusive care (ACCESSCare-PREM).
- To examine how the LGBT+ communities and their needs are framed within NHS England Integrated Care Systems strategies.
