Sociological Approaches to Oral Health and Oral Healthcare Our broad remit is to apply sociological research, practice and theory to oral health. Our current focus is on person centred care. UK guidelines require that dental care teams practice person centred dentistry. There remains little consensus on what this means in theory or practice. Our group have developed the first theoretically underpinned model of person centred care in practice which forms the basis of undergraduate teaching on person-centred dentistry. From here a series of studies have looked at PCC in practice and at the development of a tool for self-monitoring person centred practice. Current work is looking at adapting this to the needs of dentally anxious patients.
