Design in Mind

What is Design in Mind?

Design in Mind is a research project conducted by the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London. We are examining the design and layout of ward environments, and investigating how the ward design and interior impacts upon patient well-being. We aim to develop a better understanding of service user's experience of the psychiatric environment.

What do we want to know?

The main questions posed by the study are; what role does the environment play in the hospital experience, and how can it be improved? We also want to discover what constitutes a patient-friendly environment, and what design factors make for a safe and pleasant ward environment. To find this out, we want to hear service user's opinions of the ward furnishings, colour schemes and layout, how you would create a friendlier ward, and what you think needs to change on wards at the moment.
