Serving society through Innovation, Engagement and Partnerships

We are committed to advancing knowledge that meets the needs and aspirations of society. We have a strong culture of innovation, connecting our research to new ideas, new products and skills. From patients to local communities, industry and international business to national governments, perspectives from across society inform our research.

Innovation at King’s College London is advanced through a coordinated, institution‑wide approach led by the Vice President (Research & Innovation) portfolio. Within this portfolio, Professor Sebastien Ourselin, Assistant Principal (Innovation), provides academic leadership for innovation, leading the development of King’s 2030 Innovation Strategy, shaping a more coherent end‑to‑end innovation ecosystem.

Professor Ourselin works in close partnership with the Research Management & Innovation Directorate, including the Innovation Transformation and King’s Innovation Catalyst (KIC) departments.

Together, their teams work with faculties, industry and external partners to maximise the impact of King’s research and innovation.

Supporting innovation from ideas to impact

Through close collaboration with policymakers, business, industry and the cultural sector, our research is translated into actionable policy and our discoveries deliver real-world impact.

Importantly, our staff and students are encouraged to realise their potential as social and commercial entrepreneurs. Our dedicated function, King's Innovation Catalyst, brings together the IP & Licensing Team, Industry Research Partnerships Office and Translational Research Office to support research from its earliest stages to commercialisation alongside the Entrepreneurship Institute and the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering.
