Beijing Normal University is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. It is a comprehensive, research-oriented and famous Chinese institution leading in teacher education. The school has a long history of more than 120 years and profound cultural heritage. It is the founder of modern higher education in China. The comprehensive strength of Beijing Normal University’s disciplines ranks among the top universities in the country offering twelve disciplines including philosophy, education, psychology, Chinese language and literature, foreign languages ​​and literature, Chinese history, mathematics, geography, systems science, ecology, environmental science and engineering and drama and film and television. The number of selected subjects ranks among the top universities in the country.

Who can apply?

Beijing Normal University Summer School is open to Undergraduate students ONLY. Postgraduate Taught and Postgraduate Research students are excluded from this offer.

Courses offered

The information on this section relates to courses offered in 2025. The courses on offer will be confirmed in March 2026 and may not be the same. Please take this into consideration when applying for a place on the programme, as we will not reallocate students if their preferred course is not available. As part of the terms of the offer, students can spend 2 weeks at BNU focusing on Chinese language lessons, Cultural workshops and Cultural attraction visits. Students will engage in immersive experiences as well as 30 hours of Language learning, with assessments. The BNU Programme offers the following: Language Focus: The camps include Chinese language courses, which are often taught by experienced teachers. Cultural Activities: Participants engage in cultural immersion activities such as Chinese brush painting, ceramics, Tai chi, Calligraphy, Fan making, market visits and dumpling making! Travel and Tours: A significant component involves travel to China, often splitting time between Beijing and another city or province. This includes visiting historical sites like the Great Wall and Forbidden City, and experiencing modern and ancient city life. Student Interaction: Participants get the chance to meet and interact with Chinese students to exchange ideas and build friendships.

Application deadlines

If you wish to apply for a place at Beijing Normal University, you will need to submit your Global Summer Exchange application by 11:59pm on Monday 16th February 2026. If your application is successful, you will be required to apply directly to BNU by Wednesday 15th April 2026. We expect to be able to offer places on the Beijing Normal University Summer Programme, this will be confirmed in due course. Students can still apply for the programme, but should take this into consideration when completing their application. If you wish to apply for a place on Beijing Normal University Summer Programme, you will need to submit your Global Summer Exchange application by Sunday 23rd February 2025 before 11:59pm. If your application is successful, you will be provided with information on how to apply directly to Beijing Normal University, once your nomination has been confirmed with them.

Eligibility, Exclusions & Restrictions

Chinese nationals are restricted from applying for a place on the BNU SSI and admission will not be accepted. King’s does not have any authority over admission decisions.
