Entry Requirements

UK applicants

Standard requirements

A minimum 2:1 undergraduate Bachelor’s (honours) degree

If you have a lower degree classification, or a degree in an unrelated subject, your application may be considered if you can demonstrate significant relevant work experience, or offer a related graduate qualification (such as a Masters or PGDip).

Programme specific requirements

The normal entry requirement for graduate study is a Bachelor's degree with minimum 2:1 honours (or overseas equivalent). Applicants with other backgrounds or qualifications, including those without a first degree, can be considered. If you do not meet the normal entry requirements or you have only the minimum academic standard you should pay particular attention in preparing your supporting statement and CV to ensure that you draw attention to evidence of potential success at graduate level. This might include publications, preparation of substantial reports or active participation in service development initiatives or funded research.

All applicants must be an NMC-registered level 1 nurse (all branches) or midwife.

Selection Process

Applicants to the PGDip SCPHN Programme require support, in writing, from a community healthcare organisation, where you will undertake practice learning in either health visiting or school nursing practice whilst on the course.

Applicants must provide evidence of support from the provider organisation in writing by completing the Practice Learning Support Form and uploading this with their application. The form must be signed by the Head of Health Visiting or School Nursing in the provider.

Applications are open to those who nominate:

  • one of our existing Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) practice partners, or
  • another healthcare provider organisation.

Please note: you must provide evidence of the support of a healthcare provider organisation at the point you apply to the course. These organisations advertise their sponsorships for health visiting and school nurse training through NHS Jobs. To gain updates on the process contact the Programme Leader.

Unfortunately, King’s College London is not able to connect you with a healthcare provider, and you are advised to make direct contact with a suitable organisation before you apply. Guidance is available on the Employer Support Form.

If you wish to apply to study at King's and you are an NMC-registered nurse (level 1) or midwife with a first degree at 2:1 or above, you also need to complete our application form.

Your King's application is made in addition to any application you make for Trust sponsorship through NHS Jobs. You may complete the King's application form at any time but you can only obtain a place on the programme of study if you have support for your application from a healthcare provider organisation.

Applicants can be funded by their provider or self-funded.

Applicants do not need to be employed by the healthcare provider at the point they apply to join the course. However, all applicants must have a suitable contract in place with the provider organisation which supports safe practice learning by the point they enrol. Guidance is available on the Employer Support Form.
