Course essentials
Rooted in the internationally recognised research strengths of the Department of Informatics, this course gives you the flexibility to explore a wide range of advanced computing topics while developing specialist knowledge through your choice of modules. You will build advanced practical and technical skills, learning how to apply computational techniques to solve complex problems.
You’ll learn from world-class experts across exciting areas of computer science, including algorithms and data analysis, cyber security and cryptography, neural networks and computer vision, software systems, financial technologies, and human-centred computing. You will also develop strong technical skills, including a thorough grounding in modern, industry-standard programming languages.
As your degree progresses, you will undertake a major project that brings together the knowledge and skills you have developed. You will create an original artefact, such as a piece of software, code or prototype, in response to a research or industry challenge. Through researching, designing, building, testing and refining your solution, you will develop valuable skills in project management, design and evaluation.
You may also have the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience by working with a company on your project. Working as part of a team with students from different backgrounds, you could develop a software solution for an external partner in a sector such as computing, law, aviation or government.
The course is taught across King’s College London’s Strand and Waterloo campuses, placing you at the heart of London and within easy reach of the city’s academic, cultural and social opportunities. The Department of Informatics is based in Bush House on the Strand Campus.
