Our BSc in Artificial Intelligence will provide you with a comprehensive and cutting-edge understanding of AI theory and practice. Designed to address the ever-evolving AI landscape, and with all modules underpinned by safe and trusted AI, you'll develop crucial analytical and practical skills, opening doors to a wide range of future-focused careers.
Our programme is structured around AI's core dimensions, including the foundations of AI, data science and Machine Learning. You’ll study reasoning, interactions and autonomous agents including robotics. You'll also gain a deep understanding of the ethics and philosophy of AI and its shifting role in society through exploring the social, legal, and professional dimensions. Throughout your degree, you’ll apply your skillset to tackle complex projects inspired by real-world industry problems. This could include working with an external company on developing a tech solution to an industry problem in your third year.
You can also choose to study for our integrated Master’s course (MSci), adding a fourth year to your degree during which you’ll undertake a substantial project. You can either choose from a wide range of advanced topics in cutting-edge computer science, or join our unique programme with Amazon Web Services, working as a team to deliver innovative digital solutions that leverage AWS technology for public sector clients.
Accreditation
This degree has been accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT. Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by BCS. An accredited degree entitles you to professional membership of BCS, which is an important part of the criteria for achieving Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status through the Institute. Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.
By studying Artificial Intelligence at King’s, you will join a vibrant and diverse community of students and staff from all over the world, exploring fundamental scientific questions and responding to key societal challenges. We delve into everything from software systems, AI, and human-centred computing, to sustainability, quantum and cryptography, as well as the societal impact of these technologies.
You will not only be taught by world-experts in their field, but study alongside pioneering students who are researching and developing cutting-edge technologies, with many of our students going on to found start-ups.
Your first two years of the course are designed to equip you with in-depth knowledge and hands-on skills across core computer science fields, including computer systems, databases, AI, software engineering and logic. You'll become proficient in programming languages through our world-class teaching, gaining not just fluency in a range of languages but a deep understanding of programming principles, enabling you to work with multiple languages, including those of the future. Practical hardware modules will also give you the skills to work with electronics, from circuit boards to programming microprocessors.
From your third year you can tailor your degree to your own interests, choosing from a wide range of modules including on robotics, data science, information security, machine learning and human-centred computing.
A key focus of our course is on project work, applying your learning to a range of real-world problems, developing key skills and confidence for your future profession. This includes in your third year, developing a software system as part of a team. For your third year, you can choose to tackle a project with one of our research groups or solve an industry problem, working as part of a team to develop software solutions in for our partner companies who span sectors from computing and law to aviation and government.
