Chemistry at King’s draws on the interface between the physical and life sciences, to explore new frontiers and deliver fundamental solutions for a sustainable and healthy society. Known for our work on the chemistry of life, our scientists are experts in a range of fields, including pharmaceutical sciences, chemical biology, biomolecular spectroscopy, nanotechnology, and computational methods. We are contributing to the fight against antimicrobial resistance, improving chemotherapy treatments and finding new uses for enzymes in carbon capture and recycling single use plastics.
Our Chemistry and Biomedicine BSc course integrates a comprehensive grounding in core principles with the skills and understanding to apply this in a broad range of contexts, drawing from active chemical and biomedical research and practice at King’s.
Flexibility in course choice
Students on the BSc and MSci courses do the same first three years, which includes project-driven laboratory practicals in Year 3. MSci students also have the opportunity to transfer to a study abroad pathway to spend either an additional year, or a semester of your fourth year, studying at a partner institution before returning to King’s to complete your studies. Transfer between these two degrees is possible up to and including the third year and is dependent on you reaching a specified average grade.
Transfers from Chemistry with Biomedicine MSci/BSc degrees to Chemistry MSci/BSc degrees is also possible up to the second term of your second year.
Students on this degree are also able to transfer to the corresponding ‘with a Year in Industry’ programme after your second year, provided you meet the academic requirements and gain one of the competitive year-long internships. This will add an extra year to the programme.
Transfer and progression to either of the study abroad pathways or the ‘with a Year in Industry’ programme requires you to meet and maintain a grade threshold.
