Course structure

Typically, one credit equates to 10 hours of work (both directed and independent study).

It is approximated that across the whole programme, students can expect 15% Lectures, 7% Seminars/Tutorials and 78% Self-guided learning.

Teaching 

We have a strong tradition of excellence in teaching, with consistently high student satisfaction ratings for Law in the National Student Survey, and are committed to maintaining that tradition. All compulsory modules are taught through lectures and regular small group teaching. 

In-person

Modules are taught through lectures and regular small group teaching. These tutorials or seminars will give you the opportunity to apply the general legal principles you have learnt to specific problems, and allow you to engage with our academics and explore issues further in depth.

Self-guided 

Guided independent study enables students to deepen their understanding of legal principles, concepts and debates outside scheduled teaching sessions. Through directed reading, research and other learning activities, students develop critical analysis, independent judgement, legal reasoning and effective study skills. 

Personal tutor

At King’s, all students on a taught programme are allocated a personal tutor who will play a key role in helping you to get the most out of your studies, providing support and encouragement for your time at university.

Personal tutors provide you with the opportunity to periodically take stock of your learning, academic progress and general wellbeing as you progress through your studies, offering guidance on how to seek further support if you need it, and how to access the range of opportunities available to you as a King's student.
