Empowering our students to shape a more sustainable future.
King's recognises the need for a drastic societal shift to combat the growing threat of climate change. This includes reducing our emissions and increasing efficiency across our estate.
As part of this, we will continue to operate and maintain our estate efficiently through reducing our energy and water consumption, improving energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable energy sources and embedding carbon reduction into our processes. These activities will be backed by specific investment in decarbonisation.
We have already made good progress by investing in on-campus renewable energy, greywater systems such as rainwater collection, BMS optimisation and retrofitting energy efficiency measures such as insulation and LED lighting.
Some of our ongoing energy-related projects include:
Progress on our energy and water targets is published in our annual Sustainability Report.

“Optimise energy and water use across all buildings and ensure renewable energy is generated at full capacity.”
King’s released a statement in February 2025 which sets out our position on reducing carbon emissions and the role of carbon offsetting. This statement was published after consultation with the Carbon Offsetting Working Group, which was commissioned in February 2024 to develop a clear approach to carbon offsetting for the whole University.
