The sustainable construction and refurbishment of buildings and infrastructure is fundamental to achieving King's vision for sustainability.

How we design, build and refurbish our estate has a significant impact on carbon emissions for many years. It is therefore an essential part of our work reducing emissions whilst providing world-class teaching and learning facilities. 

We have already made significant steps to ensure that sustainability and climate resilience are built into construction and refurbishment projects. We do this by carrying out Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM, external link) and SKA assessments and developing sustainability guidance for capital projects.

King's has produced guidance outlining a framework for the delivery of sustainable design and construction projects. This supports our policy objective of managing construction, refurbishment and post-completion occupancy of our buildings, regardless of size, to support enhanced sustainability performance of our estate and enhance the wellbeing of building users.
