The College Council is the governing body of King's and consists of up to 21 members. The current membership is 18 members until the arrival of the new President & Principal in June 2021.
Twelve members, including the Chair of the Council, are independent members appointed from outside the College. Six members are staff of the College, while one member (the President of the King's College London Student Union) is a student.
Members are appointed by the Council on the recommendation of the Council's Governance and Nominations Committee, with the exception of the Principal of the College and the President of the KCLSU, who serve ex officio; and three of the staff members who, since November 2019, have been elected from the membership of the Academic Board, by Academic Board members.
