At King’s College London, we are passionate about our people and committed to improving the student experience, creating a thriving staff community and supporting colleagues to deliver world leading and impactful research.

As the way we work, learn, research and socialise has evolved, we are working to create an environment for our students and staff to support their success. At the same time, we want to improve our environmental performance and preserve our heritage and listed buildings.

One of the ways we will achieve our aims is through Campus Futures, our programme of work to ensure we use our estate in a forward-thinking and efficient way, which inspires the very best learning, teaching and research.

You can find information about some of our current projects and recent developments below.

The £65m Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People is set to be the world-leading centre for child and adolescent mental health.

The Pears Maudsley Centre is set to open in 2025.

Enhancing our laboratories, Strand and Waterloo campuses

To inspire collaboration and create an environment that nurtures success and supports growth, we’re creating new cutting-edge laboratories and facilities across our Strand and Waterloo campuses.

This work involves refurbishing our spaces to create new teaching and chemistry labs and more teaching spaces, which will support learning, research and innovation across King’s Interdisciplinary Science (KIS).

As part of our plan to bring key services and spaces for students together on the Strand, we have now received planning permission to redevelop the Bush House South West Wing (BHSWW).

This landmark building in the heart of London was home to the BBC World Service for decades, and remains a symbol of global communication and public engagement—something that fits naturally with King’s role in the world today.

Our exciting new redevelopment of the space will include:

  • A new Student Services Centre, making it easier for students to access support in one central, accessible location.
  • A unique Agora, providing innovative space for teaching, and where students, staff, alumni and external partners can come together to exchange ideas and share learning.
  • A Showcase space, celebrating the achievements of our students and staff through exhibitions, talks and events.
  • Flexible social areas for students to meet, relax and build a sense of connection and belonging

Sustainability is a core focus in all our estate development work and Bush House South West Wing gives us the opportunity to focus this sustainable practice throughout the redevelopment.

We hope to open the doors in September 2027.
