Sir Nigel Sheinwald GCMB
Independent member of the Council
Sir Nigel Sheinwald was appointed an independent member of the Council in 2014 and has been a Visiting Professor in the Department of War Studies since 2012. He is Chair of the Governance and Nominations Committee and is also a member of the Chairs' Committee and the Remuneration Committee. He is a Non-Executive Director of Royal Dutch Shell and has several other business appointments. He sits on the Advisory Boards of a number of organisations in the fields of European and International Affairs. He is a member of the UK-US Fulbright Education Commission.
Sir Nigel retired from HM Diplomatic Service in 2012. He served as British Ambassador to the United States (2007-2012) and the European Union (2000-2003) and was Foreign Policy and Defence Advisor to the Prime Minister (2003-2007). He graduated with a First in Classics from Balliol College, Oxford where he is now an Honorary Fellow.
