The core record for each student, whether in paper or digital format, is retained permanently in archive storage to meet expectations that an educational record is available for each student throughout their working life. This is a standard requirement of some professional bodies and students expect that information of value relating to them will be retained by King's.
It is important to note that not all student data will be worthy of permanent retention. This is not just about saving space - there are also legal obligations to dispose of some student records after a set period of time.
The student records retention schedule provides comprehensive guidance on the length of time that core academic and student support records should be retained. If you can’t find guidance on a particular type of record, please contact us and we'll be happy to advise you.
Information for university staff on storage and management of student records is available on our internal pages.
