Starting the AKC

AKC for Alumni

We are delighted to announce that the AKC (Associateship of King’s College) is now being launched as a Distance Learning Programme available to alumni of King’s College London.

Alumni who successfully complete three years of the AKC programme (the same regulations as for campus-based students) are eligible for election by the Academic Board, on behalf of the College Council, as Associates of King’s College.

How to apply
  • Go to the Admissions Portal
  • Register an account
  • Create a new application
  • Search in Programme Name for ‘AKC’
The deadline for applications for entry in October this year is 31 August, although admissions may close before this date once all available places have been allocated.
Admissions will reopen in January 2021 for entry in the 2021/2 academic year.
Please note: King’s College London only accepts applications submitted through the Admissions Portal.
Entry requirements

You must be an alumnus of King’s (or from a College which has merged with King’s) and have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification. Applicants will be required to upload a copy of their degree certificate or transcript as part of the application process.

Additional requirements

As all course materials are delivered online, you are advised to only apply for this course if:

  • you are comfortable using the internet
  • you have access to a PC and broadband internet.
Course fees

For entry in 2020/1, the fees are £500 per academic year (£1500 in total).

For entry in 2021/2, the fees will be £525 per academic year (£1575 in total).

You will receive an invoice from Credit Control after you have enrolled at King's at the start of each academic year.

Please note: students who withdraw before 1 November each year are able to request a refund. Students who withdraw after this point remain liable for the whole fee.

How to enrol

Alumni are required to enrol on the AKC Programme at the start of each academic year.

At the start of your first year on the course, you will receive an email which explains how to set up your King's IT account. This gives you access to:

Once you have set up your IT account, you will be able to enrol via Student Records.

You must enrol by 1 November each year.

Please note: you will not have access to course materials until you have completed your enrolment online. If you experience any issues with the enrolment process, please email

Accessing course materials

All course materials are accessed via KEATS:

You will be able to access KEATS after you have set up your King's IT account and course materials will be available to you once you have completed your enrolment on the AKC Programme.

As the AKC for Alumni is delivered entirely online, we do not expect students to need to visit the King's libraries in person; however, alumni library membership is available upon application. Please contact the Alumni Office in the first instance.

King's email accounts

During your time on the AKC programme, we will need to communicate with you about important things – for example, assessment information or your results.

Communications from the College will normally be by email and you are advised to check your King’s email account regularly.

The AKC team accept no responsibility if you do not receive essential information because you have not checked your King’s email account.
