Daily Bread Chaplaincy

***As things stand, the Chaplaincy is working remotely, but is available via email. Chaplaincies, Chapels and Prayer Rooms are closed and all on-site services and events are suspended until further notice - however, the Chaplaincy is still active and you can find out more about what the Chaplaincy is doing during lockdown here. Regular events

International lunch 

Every Monday in term time, 12.30-14.00, Chaplaincy 

There is such a thing as a free lunch! Come and go when you like.  For international and home students and staff.

Mindful Meditation 

Every Thursday in term time, 13.10-13.40, Bush House Chaplaincy space

A short session of guided meditation and silence in the middle of the day.

Vocations Group 

Selected Wednesdays, 14.45-16.00, Chaplaincy

A group for anyone exploring the possibility of Christian ministry. There are meetings in the Autumn and Spring terms (see Special Events section below).

Fridays at 3 - during term time

Tea & Cake and an opportunity for informal discussion with fellow staff and students.

All are welcome to drop in. Tim and Romana are usually around for this.

Special events

Monday 23 September - Chaplaincy Afternoon Tea

16.00-18.00, Strand Chapel

Join us for a (free!) Afternoon Tea to celebrate the start of term. Many of the Chaplains and students from various faith communities will be around. This is a great opportunity to meet other staff and students.

Preacher: The Revd Canon Dr Jennifer Smith, Superintendent Minister, Wesley's Chapel, London

Followed by a reception.

Thursday 3 October - Opening of Year Catholic Mass, Strand

17.30, College Chapel

Tuesday 5 November - All Souls' Service, Strand

We are replacing Choral Evensong with a Choral Eucharist for the season of remembrance. At this service, we remember our family and friends who have died, reading their naems out during the service.

Wednesday 4, Thursday 5, Friday 6 December - Advent Carols, Strand

17.30, College Chapel

A solemn and traditional service of music and readings by candlelight, progressing from darkness to light.

Congregants are required to be seated by 17.20 for a prompt start to the service at 17.30. The duration of the service is approximately 90 minutes and admissions and exits during the service can only be facilitated while hymns are being sung to avoid disruption.

The outstanding Chapel Choir will be singing and mulled wine and mince pies will be served after the service.

Tickets will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Tickets can be booked via Eventbrite from the end of October:

Tuesday 10 December - Christmas Carol Service by Candlelight, Strand

17.30, College Chapel

Traditionally, this has been a more informal event to which we welcome all members of the King's community. 

This is a chance to sing all your favourite Christmas carols and the Chapel Choir will be singing. No tickets are required for this event, but in recent years it has been very full so come early to grab a good seat!

Wednesday 26 February - Ecumenical Ash Wednesday Service, Strand

Preacher: The Revd Tim Ditchfield, College Chaplain & Acting Dean

The start of Lent is traditionally marked by services of repentance, where we receive a cross of ash on our foreheads. Join us for this ecumenical service of penitence and repentance.

Tuesday 24 March - Passiontide Service, Strand

This wonderful candlelit service is similar in style to the Advent service and incorporates elements of the liturgy of the church for Lent and Holy Week.

Thursday 21 May - Ascension Day Eucharist, Strand

09.15, Singing on the Strand

09.30, Eucharist service 

It is our tradition to sing hymns outside the gates of King's on the Strand and then process to a Communion service. This is followed by breakfast in Covent Garden.

Tuesday 26 May - Catholic Confirmation, Strand

17.30, College Chapel

Roman Catholic Baptism & Confirmation service with Bishop John Sherrington, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Westminster.

The Chaplaincy also organised a number of special events across the Academic Year to which all members of College are welcome. 

The Chaplains at Strand campus are Tim Ditchfield, Alexander FostiropoulosSimon Woodman, James Johnson, Jarel Robinson-Brown, Dr Harrie CedarImam Abdul Mumin Choudhury and Romana Kazmi. Tim is normally around all week, Abdul and James are normally available on a Tuesday, Fr Alexander is normally around on a Thursday and Romana is available on a Friday. Simon, Jarel and Harrie are available by appointment. The Chaplaincy Assistant to the Strand Campus is Verity Roberts.
