The university's Sustainability Champions are working on campus and in our residences to make King's a more sustainable working environment; reducing its social and environmental impacts. The programme has proven to be crucial in helping the Sustainability Team embed sustainability and efficiency throughout the university and also brings together King's staff and students from the different campuses, departments and faculties, empowering them to make positive changes within and beyond their own work environments.
Any time throughout the year, you can become a Sustainability Champion for your office, lab or department. Every year teams are audited and receive a level of accreditation for their efforts - Bronze, Silver or Gold.
The following sections provide more information about the Champions Scheme, but if you are left with any unanswered questions, do not hesitate to email the Sustainability Team.
About the Sustainability Champions scheme
Throughout the year, Sustainability Champions work on implementing projects and actions and working toward gaining a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. Although the scheme runs on a yearly cycle, following an academic calendar, you can join any time during the year.

How to become a Sustainability Champion?
To get involved, you need to form a team. This can be as big or small as you like - it is whatever suits your working environment. As a Champion, you will be responsible for your team completing the criteria set out in the Green Impact Workbook. Together, your team can aim to achieve either the Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. Please fill in an application form and send it to the Sustainability Team to let us know you would like to become a Sustainability Champion. You can then access your team's online workbook by registering online at Green Impact.
For more information on becoming a Champion for your laboratory or office, visit the respective webpage.
What do you get as a Champion?
Besides helping King's to become a more sustainable place, being a Sustainability Champion is a great development opportunity, providing you with Lunch & Learn workshops and knowledge on sustainability throughout the year. It also provides the chance to meet other staff in different departments and you will be invited to the Sustainability Champions Awards Ceremony in July with the rest of your team to celebrate sustainability at King's College London.
Throughout the year, the Sustainability Team are on hand to answer any questions. In addition, the team has provided resources to help you develop your sustainability knowledge and complete criteria in your workbook. We estimate being a Sustainability Champion will take no longer than 30 minutes of your time a week. The criteria are designed so you can fit them around your working day and you may even find your team are already doing some of the tasks.
