Fair Energy Campaign

Fair Energy Campaign

Care about social and climate justice? As part of Citizen’s UK’s Fair Energy Campaign, student group King’s 4 Change are running events to empower people to switch to cheaper, fairer and greener suppliers. We believe that everyone deserves access to clean energy and fair pricing, but today too many people can’t afford their energy bills. Switching to a green supplier is the single biggest thing you can do to reduce your carbon footprint, and yet 25% of UK households don't even know which energy tariff they're on. Let's create an energy social movement for people and planet!

Our overall aim is to end financial and environmental exploitation in the energy market.

Want to get involved? Email lucas.waelbroeck_boix@kcl.ac.uk to find out how you can join us in campaigning, communications and community engagement.

Why?

The climate crisis is getting worse every year, costs of living are rising and big companies keep ripping working people off. It’s hard to know how we can stand up to such big and complex problems. Switching to a renewable energy supplier saves the average UK household hundreds of pounds each year and tonnes of CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere.

Do good for yourself, our communities, and the planet.

Want to join the Fair Energy team?

We are currently looking for volunteers to specifically help co-chair the campaign, and to support with communications. Please email lucas.waelbroeck_boix@kcl.ac.uk with a brief introduction into your interests, experience and availability to get involved.

Our small, dedicated team is made up of volunteer staff, students and alumni, working flexibily around one another's schedules. We are always open to your ideas and how you'd like to lead and grow based on your interests, so get in touch if you'd like to share your skills in another way.

If you are a King’s staff member and want to volunteer for the campaign with communities, do feel free to use your Service time for this opportunity. If you are a student, log your hours with KCLSU volunteering

Previous events

Fair Energy Celebration Picnic, 21st May 2021Tabard Gardens

An opportunity to come together, celebrate switching, and welcome new people.

Borough Food Coop - Switch Day
We delivered a Switch Day on the 8th May at Borough Food Cooperative - a local initiative which distributes donated food at subsidised prices to families in south London, to help tackle food insecurity.

King’s Global Day of Service

On March 25th 2021, we ran an interactive workshop where participants learnt how they could take action with their communities and tackle climate and social justice, by switching. Participants brought an external group to King’s (e.g. schools, faith groups, community centres, businesses, families) and a previous energy bill. They learnt community organising techniques and joined this nationwide energy social movement for households, civil society and the planet. Re-watch the event.

Sustainability Month

For Sustainability month (Feb 2021) we held a successful webinar on how to switch and how to get involved. Afterwards we ran drop-in 121 sessions for further support.
