King’s is committed to not only complying with our legal duties during the process of procurement, but also seeking to reduce the environmental impact of the products and services we purchase. We are also working with suppliers to maximise our positive impact on local communities, both in London and throughout our supply chain.
Procurement policies are regularly updated to ensure they comply with relevant legislation and support the university’s work to reduce its negative impact from goods and services procured. More information can be found on the procurement webpages, and staff and students can access advice on procurement on our internal pages.
In addition to our Socially Responsible Procurement Policy, King's has a Fairtrade Policy. We are also a certified Fairtrade University, and working towards the National Union of Students' and Fairtrade Foundation's new Fairtrade Universities Award.
Carbon emissions from procurement
Procurement is the source of a significant part of our scope 3 (indirect) carbon emissions, and as such is reported on in our annual Environmental Sustainability Report.
