Centre of European Law

Founded in 1974, The Centre of European Law is one of the oldest research centres of its kind. We are known around the world as research leaders in European law – a role that is even more crucial in the current political climate.

Our work focuses on the relationships between domestic and European laws, the dialogue between courts, and external relations regarding trade relations.

We are more than just an academic research centre. We have two scholarships for PhD researchers, offer first class education worldwide through our blended learning programmes, and are heavily involved in student activities, including organising trips to the European Courts of Justice. We are engaged with society and external stakeholders, such as government, NGO’s, the practising profession and policy makers.

With such a large community of people involved in European law, our mission is to bring them together to learn through our events. Around 550 delegates attend our annual lecture and annual conference, from academics and lawyers to European officials and judges. We organise a series of seminars and workshops related to our research projects, often resulting in publications.
