Join us for drinks and canapés at this year’s Air and Space Careers Night on Tuesday 28th November from 18.00 - 20.00 in the River Room, King's Building. 

Hosted by the Freeman Air & Space Institute (FASI), this inaugural event will convene air and space professionals – many of whom are King’s alumni – and students across the university in a speed networking format. Through direct and intimate conversations with industry heavyweights, military commanders, media commentators, thought leaders and many more, you will have the opportunity to discover and pursue diverse careers in air and space.

Meet Our Air and Space Experts...


Maggie Appleton has been the CEO of the RAF Museum since 2015. Maggie is a past President of the UK’s Museums Association, a previous co-chair and now member of the Women Leaders in Museums Network and a member of the judging panel for the Museums+Heritage Awards.

Chirstoph Bergs is the host of the Military Aviation History YouTube channel and a PhD candidate at the Department for European and International Studies at KCL.

Sir George Cox is a business executive, aero engineer and PhD candidate at the Dept of WAr Studies at KCL.

Richard Franklin is the Managing Director of Airbus Defence and Space.

Michelle Howard is a government relations and strategic policy advisor for the defence and space sectors; and a PhD Candidate in Defence Studies at King’s College London.

Gp Capt Richard Langley is the Deputy Head (Defence) at the National Security Secretariat.

Air Marshal (Retd) Sir Gerry Mayhew was commissioned into the RAF in 1988. Between 2019 and 2022, Sir Gerry was the Deputy Commander of the RAF and was responsible for all training and global operational activity of the Service.

Dr Sarah-Louise Miller is a historian of war and conflict, specialising in airpower, intelligence and military innovation in the Second World War. She is a lecturer in the Defence Studies Department at King’s College London and teaches at the UK Defence Academy in Shrivenham.

Elizabeth Seward joined BAE Systems in 2022 and is Head of Space Strategy and Future Business for BAE Systems, responsible for defining the strategic direction and new business delivery across defence and civil space.

Ali Stickings is the Business Manager for Defence Space at Frazer-Nash Consultancy, leading on strategy, business development and client relationships across space defence, government and industry.

Juliana Suess is the Research Analyst and Policy Lead on Space Security as part of the Military Sciences team at RUSI and is the host of the podcast War in Space.
