How can a short message of kindness create connection and belonging?
Join this interactive workshop on understanding the asylum system and showing solidarity through Messages of Welcome
About the Event
Held in collaboration with King’s Volunteering, the King’s Sanctuary Programme, and Conversations Over Borders, this interactive workshop gives participants the opportunity to learn about the UK asylum system and hear directly from someone who has gone through it themselves. The session includes a live Q&A, providing space for open discussion and shared understanding.
As part of the workshop, participants will also write their own Message of Welcome — a simple but meaningful gesture of solidarity to be shared with people who have recently arrived in the UK to seek safety. The event will conclude with practical information on how to get involved and support refugees and asylum seekers in your community.

About Conversations Over Borders
Conversations Over Borders builds connections between communities by linking refugees and people seeking asylum with the wider public across the UK. They facilitate 1:1 and group English classes, refugee-led mental wellbeing support, and a digital access and inclusion programme.
When far-right violence spread across the UK in August 2024 and hotels housing asylum seekers were targeted with attacks and arson, Conversations Over Borders invited the public to send Messages of Welcome to those affected. Over 3,000 people responded in just two weeks — small acts of kindness that made a lasting impact on those experiencing displacement and uncertainty.
Their ongoing work aims to create a fairer, more compassionate UK where everyone has what they need to thrive.
