Emphasising an ontological continuum between bodies and territories, Cuerpo-Territorio is an indigenous concept that has recently been operationalised as a method by Latin American critical geography collectives and scholars.

In this workshop, we discuss the origins of this embodied participatory method, its potentialities, and various ways in which it has been applied and adapted. We will share some of our own work, as a researcher and artist, adapting this method to collaboratively investigate and artistically represent the experiences of violence and resistance of Latin American migrant women in England.

In this workshop led by Rosa Heimer and Nina Franco, participants will be invited to practically engage with this method by mapping their own body-territory and to reflect on the epistemological and ethical considerations of using Cuerpo-Territorio mapping in other areas of research.

For insights into body-mapping and the cartography of survivorhood, explore the project produced as part of the collaborative project ‘Stitching voices, stitching bodies’ by Rosa Heimer, Nina Franco and others: https://www.artscabinet.org/repository/stitching-voices-stitching-bodies-an-audiovisual-cartography-of-survivorhood
