King’s Experts Series: the Ethics of AI

How can we ensure that we live well with technology?

The last year has seen an explosion in artificial intelligence (AI) developments, with a torrent of news around issues concerning the vast potential of AI in general, the tendency towards normalisation of generative AI in a short space of time, and the increasing concerns surrounding ethics, risks and regulation of AI.

King’s Digital Futures Institute uses a cross-faculty approach to help create better digital futures. The Institute advances research and public understanding of the contexts, consequences and possibilities of technology by reframing what are usually thought of as technical challenges – to be solved through technical fixes – as human and social challenges require other ways of knowing, making and responding.

Our panellists are leading in this field and are pioneering research at King’s. You will hear from:

  • Co-Chair Professor Steven Connor: Professor of Living Well with Technology in Faculty of Arts & Humanities; Director of Research for King’s Digital Futures Institute

  • Co-Chair Professor Marion Thain: Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities; Chair-Director of King’s Digital Futures Institute; Professor of Culture & Technology

  • Dr Kate Devlin: Reader in Artificial Intelligence & Society in the Department of Digital Humanities; Creative and Outreach Lead for Responsible AI UK; Advocacy and Engagement Director for the Trusted Autonomous Systems Hub; board member of the Open Rights Group

  • Professor Mateja Durovic: Professor of Law and Technology at the Dickson Poon School of Law; Director of the Centre for Digital Law; Co-Director of the Centre of Technology, Ethics, Law and Society at King’s

  • Dr Sanjay Modgil: Reader in Artificial Intelligence, Department of Informatics; visiting Professor at the Department of Philosophy, University of Milan; research focus in AI ethics and philosophy, logic and dialogue for human-AI communication

Attendees are invited to pose questions on all topics related to the ethics of AI in this exclusive live webinar.
