Please note: This event is now fully booked.

Larian Studios, the developers responsible for games like Baldur's Gate 3 and the recently announced Divinity, will give a 3-hour workshop on writing for games on 12 February, 9:30-12:30, which will take place at the Great Hall, King's Building, King's College London.

This will be of interest to students with a passion for writing (world-building, creating compelling characters, etc) for video games, especially narrative-focused ones with branching choices.

The workshop is a chance to learn from some of the most talented and original writers in the industry, who have been pushing the boundaries of choices and consequences in games. It's also a chance to make an impression, as afterwards, following further selection processes (see below), there is the possibility that one student will be selected as an intern to work on their next game on a 3-month paid summer internship. This will be at their state-of-the-art Guildford Studio. It's possible to benefit from the workshop without applying for the internship.

This event is sponsored by the Department of Digital Humanities and is part of the Digital Humanities Game Lab event series. It is organised by Feng Zhu and Orcun Can. Please note that it is only open to King's students and alumni and that there is no online component to this workshop.

Internship Application Process

Potential applicants are invited to attend a workshop on 12th February 2026 that will dive into the skills and expectations of writing dialogue for Larian.

Note: this workshop is mandatory for anyone who would like to apply for the internship.

After the workshop, there will be an optional Q&A for students to ask any further questions about writing, Larian, or the internship. Workshop attendees will be invited to submit a CV, short cover letter, and (optional) writing samples. Applicants will then be sent the Larian writing test, which will be assessed by our hiring team.

The final assessment and selection will be made by the end of April 2026.

About Larian Studios

Founded in 1996, Larian Studios has long been dedicated to creating world-class video games. The team is known for the critically acclaimed Divinity series, including Divinity: Original Sin, and Divinity: Original Sin 2. Our latest game, Baldur's Gate 3, launched to critical acclaim, receiving over 200 Game of the Year Awards, and major awards from BAFTA Game, Golden Joysticks, Game Developers Choice, DICE, and The Game Awards.

Writing at Larian

Larian writers are at the coalface of giving video game players the tools they need to craft their own stories. This workshop will give attendees an opportunity to experience the challenges and joys of complex branching dialogue for themselves, while also learning how Larian approaches writing where the player drives the story.

The workshop will be especially suited to students who are interested in pursuing a career in game writing or anyone who wants a hands-on experience of writing branching dialogue in the style of Larian Studios.

The workshop will be led by Larian writers Adrienne Law and Chrystal Ding, who between them are responsible for the Baldur's Gate 3 characters Orin the Red, the Emperor, a very pompous pigeon, and a hunk of rotting spider meat (amongst other things).
