Keeping safe at King’s

Please note, this event is taking place in person and will be following the latest Coronavirus guidance. You can find King’s latest COVID-19 guidance on Keeping King’s Safe Together.

The opening ceremony for Brazil Week 2022 will have a brief presentation from the Director of the Institute, Dr Vinicius Mariano de Carvalho, looking at the Institute's activities in 2021 and our plans for 2022, followed by a concert by King’s Brazil Ensemble.

About the concert

The King's Brazil Ensemble is dedicated to the study and practice of a Brazilian repertoire for string orchestra (eventually with soloists or guest musicians). The ensemble was created in 2015 and since then has perfomed in many events at King’s and other venues in UK.

For the opening ceremony, the Ensemble will perform a variety of pieces by Brazilian composers, such as Claudio Santoro, Guerra Peixe, Martinho da Vila and Tom Jobim.

There will also be the world premiere of the piece Xikhongelo (prece), by the Mozambican composer Estêvão Filipe Chissano.
