Responsible & Sustainable Computational Research Workshop
New Hunt’s House, Guy’s Campus, London
Join us on 15 April for a hands‑on day dedicated to responsible and sustainable computational research. We’ll look at how we can work smarter, reduce our environmental impact and build a more sustainable future for research at King’s.
Delivered with colleagues from across the UK, the programme brings together researchers, software engineers, funders and sustainability leaders to share best practice, practical tools, fresh ideas and real‑world experience. You’ll hear from speakers and contributors from leading organisations, offering national perspectives on the tools, policies and approaches shaping sustainable research.
If you work with HPC, GPUs, AI or large datasets, this day is designed for you.
We’ll explore:
- Smarter, more responsible use of HPC, CPUs and GPUs
- Sustainable AI and “reasonable performance” computing
- Better data storage and retention strategies
- Practical tools such as GreenDiSC
- Turning insight into action through facilitated roundtables
These practical changes can help you:
- Improve performance
- Reduce compute and storage costs
- Lower energy use
- Strengthen grant competitiveness
- Increase reproducibility
The afternoon includes in‑person roundtable discussions, followed by an optional evening social where you can share experiences, challenges and ideas with others.
This is day one of our two‑day sustainable research series. On 16 April 2026, we’ll continue with a day focused on carbon calculators, sustainability training, sector updates and shared learning. You’re welcome to join either day independently or take part in both.
