At this webinar
Over 330 people attended today’s webinar in the Homelessness series at King's in which Jess Harris presented early emerging findings from the NIHR HSDR-funded study, Use of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) with people experiencing multiple exclusion homelessness in England.
The findings were drawn from a national survey of practitioner experience of use of the MCA conducted last summer. The presentation brought together the survey's quantitative elements and free text content.
Coming up
25 February 2025 10:00 to 11:00: Diabetes and homelessness: responding to a complex safeguarding challenge, with Sam Dorney-Smith.
The 2nd webinar from this HSCWRU-led study will share and discuss the findings from its 2024 national survey, the first to learn from social care, health and homelessness practitioners across England about their thinking and experiences on this topic, including ways to improve practice.
Factors such as poor mental health, substance use, effects of trauma and service mistrust, and executive dysfunction in this population mean that assessments under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) can be particularly challenging. This study is exploring what makes a 'good' assessment and if we should be thinking more, and differently, about mental capacity.
Thank you to the 674 survey respondents who contributed to this phase of the study.
This event will be led by Jess Harris and Stephen Martineau from the Homelessness Research Programme at HSCWRU, King's College London.
