King's India Institute and NISAU speak to Dr Raghuram Rajan on why liberal democracy is needed for India's economic development.

Speaker

Professor Raghuram Rajan is the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at Chicago Booth. He was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India between September 2013 and September 2016. Between 2003 and 2006, Dr. Rajan was the Chief Economist and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund.

Moderators

Kamini Gupta (@kamini_gupta_) is Assistant Professor at King’s Business School, King’s College London. Her award-winning research focuses on the domain at the intersection of business and society; and she has a special interest in social issues in India.

Sanam Arora (@arora_sanam) is an Investment Management Consultant, and Founder & Chairperson of National Indian Students & Alumni Union (@NISAU_UK), UK. She has a special interest in championing India globally and examining issues related to contemporary India.

Discussant

Dr Sunil Kumar Mitra (@SunilMitraKumar) is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at King's India Institute. His research uses econometric analysis of survey data to study household behaviour in emerging economies, caste-based discrimination in the Indian context, and other forms of discrimination more generally.

 

This event is jointly organised by the King’s India Institute (@KingsIndiaInst) and the National Indian Students & Alumni Union (@NISAU_UK), UK. It is presented by the ‘Enablers and Obstacles to UK-India trade: Banks and Diaspora’ project led by Dr Sunil Kumar Mitra and Dr Kamini Gupta at King’s College London; and Dr Prateek Raj at IIM Bangalore, and is part of the NISAU’s ‘India at 75’ and ‘NISAU at 10’ series of activities to mark 75 years of India’s independence and the tenth anniversary of the NISAU.
