Role Overview

Reporting to the Senior Vice-President Operations, this is a critical and strategic senior leadership role responsible for designing and leading King’s approach to student recruitment and admissions. Working closely with, and routinely directly tasked by, the SVP Academic and the University Executive to deliver on the Integrated Planning Process the university’s student number targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a directorate that has undergone a significant change, in terms of structure, priorities and culture. • To represent King’s at the highest level in relation to Global Student Recruitment and Admissions and to build strong stakeholder relationships across Directorates and with Faculties. • Develop and deliver a student recruitment (UK and International) and admissions strategy which ensures resources are deployed effectively to provide a sustainable pipeline of undergraduate and postgraduate students to meet our student number plans laid out in the Integrated Planning Process. • Ensuring King’s consistently delivers an excellent experience to all student applicants, at every stage of their journey though first contact, application, offer and admission, focussing particularly on developing effective conversion activity in partnership with in-country teams and Faculties. • Develop and expand King’s in country presence in key regions. • Review King’s agent network and commission levels consistent with planned growth in target markets. • Leading the Insights team to develop market-led data which is used to inform the development of our recruitment strategy and Faculty offerings. Providing data and information to Faculties to inform the development of new products which attract students from our target markets. • Delivering student enrolment targets and income streams, enabling us to meet our ambitious financial and strategic goals, and achieving an effective approach to student number planning, whilst managing key risks. • Leading the team to work dynamically in partnership with Faculties to support their student recruitment needs including significant stakeholder engagement with Deans and Faculties, development of region-specific recruitment and partnership plans. • Work with the Executive Directors in other Professional Services areas to ensure that overlapping processes are coherent and supporting systems integrate with the university enterprise design. • Establish a data and KPI driven customer-focused approach to student recruitment and admissions. Develop and deliver the global market recruitment strategy over a three-year rolling basis.

• The successful candidate will have a highly commercial, service-orientated mindset and a proven track record of successfully leading and developing a high performing student recruitment and admissions function in the HE sector, with experience of both international and home markets. • You will have experience of developing and leading successful student recruitment strategies, including growing previously untapped markets as well as having optimised data analytics and technology to improve performance in recruitment and admissions. • You will be expected to undertake periods of international travel to meet key stakeholders, agents and in-country teams. • You will have experience of using data analytics and business intelligence to identify new markets and new products and work with stakeholders to develop plans for delivery. • You will have excellent leadership and managerial skills with the ability to drive high performance and measurable outputs, as well as exceptional stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills with the ability to land change well with varied stakeholder groups.

About the Global Student Recruitment and Admissions Directorate

We are the leading destination for ambitious students from across the world because of our academic excellence, reputation and research impact. The focus for King’s is to ensure the best possible student experience, from the beginning of their journey with us as prospective students through to enrolment so that our students can thrive in our diverse and inclusive community in central London. Each year we attract around c.17,000 new students from across the UK and wider globe to come and study at our five London campuses. The Recruitment and Admissions functions work in partnership with the faculties to create strategies to attract students from across global markets, as well as from the UK. Our student recruitment team are also brand ambassadors for King’s, where they nurture and develop relationships with key stakeholders around the world, from schools to parents and counsellors. The Directorate has just completed a significant transformation to a new structure and operating model across the different recruitment channels, with work already well underway to improve the processes and systems we use to manage the entire student journey from application through to enrolment. The final stage of this process, to integrate and then review the admissions processes and systems, has already begun.
