Counting the Costs
Principal
Investigator: Prof Neil Greenberg
Postdoctoral researcher: Dr Julia Diehle
The purpose of this study is to establish the total
number of wounded, injured or sick military personnel or veterans (as well as
their dependents and close family members) who might require support from
either the state or third sectors (or both) following their service in the
British Armed Forces during the UK’s recent conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan or
elsewhere since 1991. This study is funded by Help for Heroes.
We will make use of existing data sets, reports and Freedom of
Information Act 2000 responses in order to provide comprehensive information
about who might need
- Support with physical issues
- Support with mental issues
- Support with social/welfare issues
The
results of this study will help the state and the third sector to plan for the
likely volume of beneficiaries over the coming years, as well as their needs
and the timing of their decision to come forward and seek support.
The study will run over 23
months and has started in November 2014. First results will be
presented in autumn 2015.
