The loveliest aspect of this award is receiving the written comments from my PhD students, and then being able to share the news with them. In an increasingly automated and bureaucratic world, fostering and being part of a small intellectual community in which there is learning and growth on all sides and in various respects is something to be especially treasured. This award is an opportunity to make that treasuring explicit.

Arts & Humanities 2025 Supervisory Excellence Award winners announced
Professor Susannah Ticciati, Professor of Christian Doctrine and Dr Shuangyu Li, Reader in Clinical Communication and Cultural Competency, have been announced as joint winners of the Supervisory Excellence Awards 2025 for the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.

It is a pleasure and also a privilege to be a PhD supervisor who shapes the next generation of scholars, while constantly being inspired by their curious and creative minds. This award brings me great joy and affirmation. It reminds me of the importance of my job. I will continue to listen deeply, guide with care, and create an environment where curiosity, integrity, and kindness in research can thrive.
Dr Shuangyu Li, Department of Interdisciplinary Humanities
The awards, which were established in 2006 by the King’s Doctoral College, recognise and celebrate exemplary PhD supervision across King’s and the Faculty winners were chosen from over 30 nominees.
Each year, hundreds of doctoral researchers complete PhDs and other doctoral degrees at King’s, before going on to academia, research, industry, and beyond. Central to every successful doctorate is the close support of their supervisory team, whose expertise and experience will help shapes their project.
Many congratulations to all those nominated from the Faculty of Arts & Humanities:
