Athena SWAN success for NMS

All five departments of the Faculty of Natural & Mathematical Sciences now hold Athena SWAN awards.

Athena SWAN bronze

The Departments of Chemistry and Mathematics have been awarded bronze awards in 2020. Following the establishment of the new Department of Engineering in 2019, the bronze award gained by the Department of Informatics in 2018 has successfully converted into two separate bronze awards - one for the Department of Informatics and one for the Department of Engineering. The Department of Physics had been awarded the silver award in 2019

Commenting on the awards, Helen Coulshed, Chair of the Faculty Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, said

I am utterly delighted that all departments in NMS have now been achieved an Athena Swan award. Having led the Chemistry application, and worked closely with other Department Equality, Diversity and Inclusion leads, I am very aware of the considerable work that goes into a successful application. The awards are external validation of our commitment to diversity and inclusion and I would like to thank all everyone who has contributed . NMS is committed to making our workplace inclusive, removing barriers to opportunities and welcoming diversity in perspective. We have recently refreshed the NMS EDI strategy and I look forward to working with colleagues and students on a detailed action plan
