IoPPN researchers feature in 2022 Highly Cited Researcher List

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is proud to announce that 21 of our academics have been named on the annual Highly Cited Researcher 2022 list from Clarivate released today.

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is proud to announce that 21 of our academics have been named on the annual Highly Cited Researcher 2022 list from Clarivate released today.

The highly anticipated annual list identifies researchers who demonstrated significant and broad influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science™ citation index. This year’s list continues to recognise researchers whose citation records position them in the very highest strata of influence and impact.

One of the nicer parts of the job of the Dean, even a temporary one, is to celebrate success, especially in the increasingly difficult times we live in. And so, I am delighted to announce that once again we have overachieved in the latest Highly Cited index published today. No fewer than 21 of our academic staff figure in this. It’s a complex algorithm they use, but basically means you are in the top 1% of your academic peers. Now you can be Highly Cited but still not have actually changed anything but when we put this together with our record of impact as measured in the most recent REF you can see we have the stars who publish but also ensure that their research changes things as well.

So many congratulations to the psychiatrists, psychologists and neuroscientists on the list. Now it’s insidious to name names - but perhaps a particular shout out to the one non-Professor on that list. That’s Dr Brendon Stubbs, who is a clinical academic physiotherapist. Yes, I know it’s only a matter of time before he join the ranks of the Professoriate but still, what an achievement!

Professor Sir Simon Wessely, Interim Executive Dean, IoPPN

Influence and impact comes in many forms that aren’t always recognised in algorithms. All staff across the IoPPN are making outstanding contributions every day.
