King's plays host to major new conference
The inaugural conference of the Philosophy, Politics and Economics Society London was hosted by the Department of Political Economy at King’s.

The conference, held from July 16-18, brought together more than 400 leading academic researchers from around the world.
The conference was co-sponsored by the PPE Society at King’s with the US-based PPE Society which is led by Professor Geoff Sayer-McCord, from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The conference featured keynote addresses from Moses Shayo (Hebrew University/King’s College London) and Laura Valentini (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich).
Dr Sam DeCanio, a Reader in the Department of Political Economy who helped organise the conference, said: “It was an honour to have hosted the PPE Society’s first European conference at King’s and I’m delighted it was such a success.
“The keynote addresses were superb and it was great to meet and hear from so many outstanding scholars working in the field. We are very much looking forward to holding the next event in 2026.”
A packed schedule of events included panel discussions on topics such as democratic decline, immigration, the future of work, the ethics of AI, sustainable agriculture, online hate speech and reproductive healthcare - among others.
As well as a large audience of researchers, the conference also welcomed students from around Europe and plans are in place to welcome a larger cohort of scholars next year.
