Professor Sarah Atkinson, Professor of Screen Media in the Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries, has been awarded the six-month accelerator from ARC, which is designed to help researchers transform ambitious social science, arts and humanities-based ideas into scalable ventures.

I’m very excited to join this year's ARC Accelerate cohort, particularly given recent research that revealed on current trends, it would take 283 years for women to make up an equal share of the tech workforce. This makes the task of showcasing marginalised creators who currently lack sustainable platforms for showcasing their work all the more urgent and the opportunity to develop GLOW-in-a-BOX all the timelier.

GLOW-in-a-BOX, born out of GLOW: Illuminating Innovation, is the world's first touring exhibition platform that addresses two interconnected problems: critical underrepresentation of women, non-binary and trans individuals in creative technology - where women represent only 19 per cent of the tech sector despite being 49 per cent of the workforce, and fragmented distribution models for immersive exhibitions.

King's are supporting the project with its growth, particularly with support from Monique Liddar and Dr Victoria McGuinness and the wider team at King’s Innovation Catalyst - a specialist team that helps King's researchers unlock commercial opportunities, from initial idea to acceleration and impact.

We are delighted that Professor Atkinson’s work is being supported through the ARC Accelerator scheme. This recognition builds on the outstanding progress already made and enables us to champion this pioneering, humanities-led innovation as a leading project in the field.
