To ensure that CANES students are exposed to a range of research environments, students will be given the opportunity to pursue an internship of approximately two months' duration in either an academic or industrial setting. The CANES Studentships include an internship fund of up to £1,500 per student.
Students should discuss their choice of internship host with their supervisor during year 2 (the first PhD year), and submit an agreed choice for approval by the Recruitment and Monitoring Board. This should normally be done early in year 3, with internships then taking place later in the same academic year. The aim is to run the internship when students have made significant headway into their PhD research but there is sufficient remaining time to fully exploit and extend new perspectives and links developed during the internship.
Students can also apply for paid internships with a duration of two-six months as long as they have received supervisor's approval.
