Biography
Alessandro Cigna is a post-graduate researcher at King's, where he has been part of the Geometry Group at the Department of Mathematics since 2023. He had previously graduated at the University of Pisa, with thesis project was about "The hyperbolization of 3-manifolds fibering over the circle", under the supervision of Professor Bruno Martelli.
At the moment, his research field is low-dimensional topology, particularly 3-dimensional manifolds. Alessandro is delving into the theory of foliations in 3-manifolds, while looking for interesting connections with other topological, algebraic, or combinatorial objects such as the Thurston norm, pseudo-Anosov flows, veering triangulations and branched surfaces.
