
Biography
Daniel Hadfield is Lead Clinical Academic Nurse for Critical Care at King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill. He is based in the Critical Care Research Office in the Golden Jubilee Wing at King's College Hospital.
He is an Honorary Lecturer in the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Palliative Care at King’s College London and an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Warwick.
Daniel completed his PhD in 2019 in King's Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine focusing on feasibility and clinical trial methods in assisted ventilation. He has since combined clinical academic leadership with research and postgraduate teaching.
His research interests centre on mechanical ventilation and weaning practice in adult critical care, with a particular focus on Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist (NAVA).
Daniel is Co-Chief Investigator for the UK NAVA trial and co-founded the Confederation of Respiratory Critical Care Trials (CoReCCT), a collaboration linking four NIHR HTA trials to align governance, outcomes and data standards.
Daniel’s research and leadership has been supported by numerous NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) awards, including a predoctoral fellowship, doctoral fellowship, 70@70 Senior Nurse and Midwife Research Leader award and Post-Doctoral Bridging award.
He also contributes to national clinical-academic networks and mentors NMAHP (Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Development Framework) colleagues through pre-doctoral and doctoral pathways.
