Biography
I am currently a Research Associate on the ERC-selected and UKRI-funded project LITAID: Decolonization, Appropriation and the Materials of Literature in Africa and its Diaspora. I hold a PhD in African Studies and Anthropology from the University of Birmingham, and an MA in African Studies (with a focus on Politics and African Literature) from SOAS, University of London. My PhD thesis, Traditional Authority, Enlightenment, and Education Bureaucracy in Ghana, explores how chiefs have expanded educational access in underserved communities. It focuses on the Otumfuo Education Fund (1999–2021), a key initiative developed through a partnership between the Asante King (Ghana) and the World Bank.
My research lies at the intersection of history, development anthropology, and politics, with a particular interest in education and bureaucratic regimes in colonial and post-colonial Africa, especially Ghana. Within LITAID, I explore the role of arts education in decolonisation in Ghana, from the 1940s to 1960s.
I have also worked with institutions such as the British Academy (London) and University College Dublin (UCD) to develop inclusive strategies aimed at broadening participation among underrepresented groups. Principles of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion form a core part of my professional ethos and identity.
