Biography
Hogan Wai is a PhD student studying the role of the skin and gut microbiome in atopic dermatitis.
His project is investigating the role of Staphylococcal strains in atopic dermatitis and how their interactions drive inflammation in the disease. In particular, his work at King’s College London in David Moyes’ Lab is focused on analysing epithelial cells’ metabolic and immune responses to these Staphylococcal strains.
He has presented his research at the European Academy of Allergy & Clinical Immunology and the Microbiology Society and was awarded Best Lightning Poster Presentation at the KCL FoDOCS 25th Annual Postgraduate Research Day.
Outside of research, Hogan is also interested in raising awareness on the role of the human microbiome in atopic dermatitis. He has delivered a bespoke course to underprivileged high school students based on his PhD work and pitched his PhD project to the wider community through the KCL 3 Minute Thesis Competition.
