Biography
Professor James Galloway is Arthritis UK Professor of Rheumatology at King’s College London and an Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He serves as Senior Director for the MBBS Programme within the GKT School of Medical Education, providing strategic leadership for the undergraduate medical degree and supporting the development of curriculum, assessment and programme delivery across the medical school.
He is also Programme Director for the PGCert in Applied Research Methods, part of the Integrated Academic Training programme, where he supports clinical trainees in developing research skills and academic careers.
Professor Galloway leads a research group at the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases focused on big data analytics, population health research, pharmacovigilance and healthcare delivery research in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. His work uses large-scale routinely collected health data to study disease epidemiology, treatment patterns and long-term outcomes, with a particular focus on the safety and effectiveness of immunomodulatory therapies in real-world clinical practice.
He holds several national and international leadership roles, including contributing to clinical guidelines for the British Society for Rheumatology and EULAR, and serving as methodology lead for the National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit. He is also Chief Medical Advisor to the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS).
Professor Galloway is Deputy Editor of Rheumatology and has published widely on inflammatory rheumatic diseases, including studies on treatment outcomes, drug safety and health inequalities.
