Biography

Josh Gillespie joined King’s College London in April 2025 as a member of the NIHR BioResource group (Nanopore team).

He holds a BSc in Genetics from the University of Glasgow and began his career as a Genetic Technologist where he gained hands-on experience in DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and Next Generation Sequencing. He later pursued a Master’s degree in Human Molecular Genetics at Imperial College London, completing a research project focused on evaluating novel lentiviral vector designs for gene therapy in Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa.

Following his postgraduate studies, Josh worked as a Research Laboratory Technician at the University of Cambridge. In this role, he was involved in the isolation of blood cells and RNA extraction from samples of patients with rare diseases. He also contributed to the development and optimisation of the Long-Read Sequencing Nanopore project.
