Maria Baczynska

PhD student

Biography

Maria started her PhD in the Garnett group in September 2023, after completing a LIDo  rotation project with the lab. Her PhD on structural studies aims to better understand the biofilm formation by the Legionella pneumophila collagen-like protein which also involves molecular dynamics studies with the Lorenz Lab, here at KCL.

In 2022, Maria gained her BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Surrey, which included a placement year at University College London's department of Structural and Molecular Biology focusing on bacterial redox biology (antioxidant pathways). For her thesis she worked on potential Sars-Cov-2 enzyme inhibitors using molecular docking, which piqued her interest in molecular biology from both wet lab and computational perspectives.

Garnett Lab

The Garnett Lab investigates molecular mechanisms that promote bacterial disease. In particular we are interested in biofilm formation and other key virulence traits that allow bacteria to establish infections and persist within the host/environment.
