Biography

Michael A. Witt is Professor in International Business and Head of Department, Strategy, International Management & Entrepreneurship at King's Business School. He holds a PhD and M. from Harvard University and an AB from Stanford University.

Michael is an expert on the institutional and geopolitical context of international business. His present research focuses on three contextual phenomena and their organizational and strategic implications: de-globalization, geopolitics/Cold War 2.0, and varieties of capitalism (national institutional systems). Methodologically, much of his recent research has drawn on configurational approaches such as fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA).

He has published five major books and a range of articles in leading scholarly journals including Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of World Business, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, Business Ethics Quarterly, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of International Business Policy, Management and Organization Review, and Socio-Economic Review.

Michael serves on editorial boards of multiple leading international business and management journals. He is former Editor-in-Chief of Asian Business & Management, a major academic journal on business and management in the Asian context, and former Consulting Editor of the Journal of International Business Studies, the leading journal in the field. Honors received include a prestigious Humboldt Fellowship.

Prior to joining King’s, Michael spent more than 20 years as a professor at INSEAD, teaching in the MBA, EMBA, and executive development programs of the school. He received multiple teaching awards and dean's commendations for teaching excellence.

In addition to the UK, Michael has lived in China, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and the United States.
