Pau is a Bioimage Analysis Specialist in the Image Analysis Nexus (IAN) core facility, with an extensive expertise in developing and applying Computational Image Processing and Analysis Tools - spanning deep learning, quantitative microscopy, and image analysis pipeline development, with contributions to open-source tool development and bioimage analysis training.

He joined the Image Analysis Nexus (IAN) facility from a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher role at the Institute for Biotechnology and Biomedicine (BIOTECMED, University of Valencia, Spain), where he provided bioimage analysis support to multiple research groups working in neural stem cell biology, developmental neuroscience, and related neurodegenerative contexts.

Pau completed his PhD in Biomedicine at the University of Valencia, with a focus on the regulation of neural stem cell quiescence, before moving to the Institute for Research in Biomedicine in Bellinzona, Switzerland, where he worked as an Imaging Specialist, and subsequently to the MRC Institute of Genetics and Cancer (IGC, University of Edinburgh) as a postdoctoral researcher, contributing to the development of Deep Learning tools for myelin research.

His expertise lies in Processing and Analysing image data across a wide range of imaging modalities, including optical microscopy (widefield, confocal, multi-photon intravital imaging, high-content screening, whole slide imaging, expansion microscopy) and electron microscopy (TEM, SEM, vEM). He works with a range of image analysis tools including Fiji, QuPath, napari, PyTorch, Cellpose, ilastik, arivis Pro and Imaris, among others, complemented by custom scripting and plugins/extension development in Python and Java.
